The “Rorate Mass,” so called because it begins with the words “Rorate caeli desuper, et nubes pluant iustum…” (Drop down dew, ye heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain the Just One…), is a votive Mass offered within the season of Advent in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Celebrated by candlelight, and traditionally held before dawn, this beautiful liturgy is esteemed particularly as part of the patrimony of the German-speaking peoples.

Very Rev. Fr. John Berg, FSSP, the Superior General of the Priestly Fraternity, will travel from the community’s headquarters in Switzerland and will serve both as the celebrant and preacher. Priests and seminarians from Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary, the FSSP’s international seminary in North America, will also travel to Alabama to assist.

Pilgrim groups are invited to attend this public Mass, to be offered in the extraordinary form, and should visit the Shrine’s webpage (www.olamshrine.com) if information is needed regarding accommodation options.

EWTN to Broadcast Extraordinary Mass

This Just in... EWTN in Cooperation with the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter (FSSP) will broadcast a Missa solemnis For the first time in EWTN's 26 Year History

SOURCE: FSSP

Full Article From above Source:

DENTON, Nebraska - AUGUST 17, 2007 - For the first time in its 26 year history, Mother Angelica's Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) will be broadcasting a live Solemn High Mass at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville, Alabama on September 14, 2007 at 8:00AM EST. EWTN has asked for the assistance of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, an international Society of Apostolic Life of Pontifical Right, to help celebrate this "extraordinary" form.

This past July 7th, Pope Benedict XVI affirmed the beauty and importance of the Tridentine Mass by issuing Summorum Pontificum, a papal document encouraging and confirming the right of all Latin Rite priests to use this more ancient use of the Mass starting September 14th. The Tridentine Mass was the normative liturgy experienced by Latin Rite Catholics prior to the Second Vatican Council.

Catholic

I have been busy with work as of late, and have not had time to really put up some good Posts-

Next weekend we will be attending the Midwest Catholic Family Conference, (Official Website here) while I'm there I plan to meet with various Catholic's from the Midwest including some Clergy / Religious, and I hope to help submit their information to the Lumen Gentleman Motu Proprio Database for those that are interested.

Please pray for a good turnout.

Family Affairs call my duty this weekend but I promise to return with some new Church pictures...

Until then enjoy this tidbit:

The term Catholic was defined by the Roman Emperor Theodosius on February 27 AD 380 in the Theodosian Code XVI.i.2:

"It is our desire that all the various nations which are subject to our clemency and moderation, should continue the profession of that religion which was delivered to the Romans by the divine Apostle Peter, as it has been preserved by faithful tradition and which is now professed by the Pontiff Damasus and by Peter, Bishop of Alexandria, a man of apostolic holiness. According to the apostolic teaching and the doctrine of the Gospel, let us believe in the one Deity of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, in equal majesty and in a holy Trinity. We authorize the followers of this law to assume the title Catholic Christians; but as for the others, since in our judgment they are foolish madmen, we decree that they shall be branded with the ignominious name of heretics, and shall not presume to give their conventicles the name of churches. They will suffer in the first place the chastisement of divine condemnation and the second the punishment of our authority, in accordance with the will of heaven shall decide to inflict."

Summorum Pontificum response worth repeating

The Bishop of Bridgeport has issued a statement to his Diocese regarding the newly release motu proprio. Some of his comments are below but I HIGHLY reccomend reading the whole thing...
Diocese of Bridgeport

and if your up for it here is the statemnt with Fr.Zuhlsdorf's  comments:
WDTPRS

THE MOST REVEREND WILLIAM E. LORI, S.T.D., BISHOP OF BRIDGEPORT:

...I want to speak about the enduring value of the extraordinary form of the Mass according to the Roman Missal of 1962. This Missal, though issued relatively recently, recapitulates centuries of liturgical development. In thinking back to my own youthful experience of the liturgy, I am reminded not only of its antiquity but also of the formative role it played in the lives of almost everyone I knew, including my parents. The Mass and the Sacraments in this form nurtured the faith of great saints, Catholic intellectuals, and untold millions of ordinary Catholics....

...Far from rejecting the renewed liturgy, the Holy Father is making an important point: the ordinary form of the liturgy (that of Pope Paul VI) is in continuity with the older usage; thus there are two forms (ordinary and extraordinary) in the one Roman Rite. This is not just a technical point. It means that you and I stand in communion, in a continuity of faith and prayer, with those who have gone before us. We are one with those who for centuries worshipped in liturgical forms which in the West gradually took shape until they were more or less standardized by Pope Pius V following the conclusion of the Council of Trent in 1563....

...An ancient adage tells us that "the law of praying is the law of believing." This means, among other things, that the liturgy is to reflect in beauty and simplicity the faith of the Church. The first job of a bishop is to teach the faith - primarily through the preaching and instruction which he delivers or that which is delivered on his behalf by pastors and parish priests. For the vast majority of Catholics, however, this occurs within the liturgy. The Holy Father has provided the bishops of the world with an opportunity to teach about the nature and role of the liturgy in the lives of all the faithful...

Small Talk

Sorry for the Long delay, with all the overtime I have been putting in at work its been a rough week, but I would like to share with you some bits and pieces of a conversation that I had with a friend of mine regarding The Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum.

Father is a Roman Catholic Priest who had been ordained after Vatician II and was never instructed in the Extraordinary form. Father is an Diocesan Priest in the southern United States. I have been having discussions with him since I was in about 8th Grade and he has even come to visit me once here in KC.

Please keep him in your prayers

Heres the Snippits:

Christopher: Id be interested of your plans of addressing the Motu Proprio in your parish

Father: I'm going to explain what the document means: that it is the Holy Father's way of explaining the role of the Traditional Latin Mass in the modern Church, and that no one need fear in the least that the modern form of the Mass will disappear. I will explain to them that if they don't want to be part of this, all they need to do is stay away from it....that there are actually TWO forms of the Roman Rite, and that the Traditional Latin Mass is one of those forms....equal in dignity with the modern form I will have to work diligently to avoid using the term "rites," as in "former rite" and "modern rite." The proper terminology according to the Holy Father is that there are two FORMS of the one RITE.

Christopher : it Does have that little "extra".. ;-)

Father: Yes it does.

Father: This is the chance for [some] to show their true colors once again. This [M.P.] will do nothing whatsoever to them, but they will still be totally ballistic over the fact that the traditional Catholics are finally being pastorally cared for by their own Church!

Christopher: is that why you are asking those that dont want anything to do with it to stay away?

Father: It will demonstrate.... that they are just bitter....if they object to this, because the point will be that no one has any reasons whatsoever to object. Those who have a kneejerk reaction to anything "pre-Vatican 2" can solve their problem by just staying away from it....They need to...... let the traditional Catholics finally be pastorally cared for.

Father seems to have a good point of view here, he is already preparing for this fight we are going to have to save our traditions, in a religion where Tradition is what sets us apart from the rest of the world those that want to see us falter will attack our Traditions first. If we are so easy to dispense with Tradition almost anything could be done away with just as simply.

Summorum Pontificum, is a great start for the reform of the reform, we must pray for all our Priests to guide us through the turbulent waters.

Msgr. Schmitz reminded us during his magnificent homily of the first mass of Fr. Talarico that the Devil is constantly attacking our priests and for all the trials and tribulations we face in our every day life, nothing will compare to the attacks on the priesthood.

Motu Proprio... the immediate aftermath.....

Tonight I enjoyed a great evening with friends, family, and some great food. Interestingly enough a conversation was started from comments on my brown scapular, positive, innocent remarks that led into discussion of the Catholic faith.

We started talking about our parishes and where we attend. One mutual friend spoke of the near by parish that we sometimes attend ordinary mass, some at the table I had never met before, but turned out to be Catholic as well, she informed us of her "Gospel" parish where ,"the gospel choir was most excellent and the sign of peace lasts 15-20 Minutes where everyone is leaving their pews and and congregating to shake each others hand"- out of prudence I held my tounge. We then mentioned that on Sundays we drive >20 minutes to attend the Extraordinary Mass in Latin, everyone at the table interest perked when I mentioned this, they began to ask questions and reminisce of their few "Old" mass experiences. I then informed them that soon the Holy Father is to allow any priest to say the Extraordinary Mass, and once again- a very positive response.

The most disappointing thing about all of this is they had no clue the Traditional Mass was still happening, and I fear this is the case for most Catholics, I think announcement of the Motu Proprio will immediately fall on mostly deaf ears, most Catholics at first will not be akin to giving up their hand holding sentiments. This Motu Proprio will be noted as the start of a Giant U turn, that we will see to transform the ordinary Latin liturgy as well as establish a concrete place for the Extraordinary form.

As we finished up the conversation, it was clear we planted some sort of seed one friend mentioned how she missed the communion rails, and she felt it was wrong they took them out, I made sure to let her knew where she could experience such a blessing again, and maybe someday, others will never share her sentiment as the period between the 1960's- 2007 will be chalked up to another very strange time in church history.

"Pope wishes to 'extend the possible use of the 1962 books to all Latin Church'"

RORATE CÆLI:Pope wishes to "extend the possible use of the 1962 books to all Latin Church":

Full Discussion at Rorate Caeli, but this is another sign that this motu proprio, is coming and possibly sheds some light on what else might be included, now just like anything else it poses more questions, either way I still see it as a step in the right Direction The Letter is as follows:

Cardinal Castrillón Hoyos, President of the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei and a member of the Fifth General Conference of Latin American Bishops, delivered the following address yesterday in Aparecida (in Spanish):

Card. Darío Castrillón Hoyos
President Ecclesia Dei
Aparecida, May 14, 2007

[Delivered in Aparecida, May 16, 2007]

Dear and Venerable Brothers,

I allow myself to present a brief information on the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei and on the state of the pastoral reality which the Holy Father has placed under its competence.

This Commission was created by the Servant of God John Paul II in 1988, when a notable group of priests, religious, and faithful, who had made manifest their discontent with the Conciliar liturgical reform and who had congregated themselves under the leadership of French Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, separated themselves from him because they were not in agreement with the schismatic action of the ordination of Bishops without the appropriate pontifical mandate. They preferred, therefore, to stay in full union with the Church. The Holy Father, by way of the Motu Proprio Ecclesia Dei Adflicta, entrusted the pastoral care of these Traditionalist faithful to this Commission.

Nowadays, the activity of the Commission is not limited to the service of those faithful who, at that time, wished to remain in full communion with the Church, nor to the efforts made to put an end to the painful schismatic situation and to attain the return of these brothers of the Saint Pius X fraternity to full communion. By the will of the Holy Father, this Dicastery extends its service, moreover, to satisfy the just aspirations of those who, due to a particular sensibility, and not having kept links to the above-mentioned groups, wish to keep alive the ancient Latin Liturgy in the celebration of the Eucharist and of the other Sacraments.

Undoubtedly, the most important effort, which concerns the entire Church, is the search for an end to the schismatic action and to rebuild the full communion, without ambiguities. The Holy Father, who was for some years a member of this Commission, wishes it to become an organ of the Holy See with the proper and distinct end of preserving and maintaining the worth of the Traditional Latin Liturgy. Yet it must be said with all clarity that it is not a turning back, a return to the time before the 1970 reform. It is, instead, a generous offer of the Vicar of Christ who, as an expression of his pastoral will, wishes to put at the disposal of the whole Church all the treasures of the Latin Liturgy which for centuries has nourished the spiritual life of so many generations of Catholic faithful. The Holy Father wishes to preserve the immense spiritual, cultural, and aesthetic treasures linked to the Ancient Liturgy. The retrieval of this wealth is linked to the no less precious one of the current Liturgy of the Church.

For these reasons, the Holy Father has the intention of extending to the entire Latin Church the possibility of celebrating Holy Mass and the Sacraments according to the liturgical books promulgated by Blessed John XXIII in 1962. There is today a new and renewed interest for this liturgy, which has never been abolished and which, as we have said, is considered a treasure, and also for this reason [the interest] the Holy Father believes that the time has come to ease, as the first Cardinalatial Commission of 1986 had wished to do, the access to this liturgy, making it an extraordinary form of the one Roman Rite.

There are good experiences of communities of religious or apostolic life recently erected by the Holy See which celebrate this liturgy in peace and serenity. Groups of faithful who attend these celebrations with joy and gratitude assemble around them. The most recent establishments are the Institute of Saint Philip Neri, in Berlin, which functions as an Oratory, and which is also present, and well received, in the Diocese of Trier; the Institute of the Good Shepherd, of Bordeaux, which gathers together priests, seminarians, and faithful, some of them from the Fraternity of Saint Pius X. The proceedings for the recognition of a contemplative community, the Oasis of Jesus Priest, of Barcelona, are well advanced.

In Latin America, as is well known, we must thank the Lord for the return of a whole diocese, that of Campos, Lefebvrian in the past, which now, after five years, presents good fruits. It was a peaceful return and the faithful who have enrolled themselves in the Apostolic Administration are glad to be able to live in peace in their parochial communities; furthermore, in effect, some Brazilian dioceses have made contacts with the Campos Apostolic Administration, which has placed priests at their disposal for the pastoral care of the Traditionalist faithful in their local churches. The Holy Father's project has been partly proved in Campos, where the peaceful cohabitation of the forms of the only Roman Rite in the Church is a beautiful reality. We have the hope that this model will yield good fruits, also in other places of the Church where Catholic faithful with diverse liturgical sensibilities live together. And we hope, furthermore, that this way of living together will also attract those Traditionalists which still remain far away.

The current members of the Commission are Cardinals Julián Herranz, Jean-Pierre Ricard, William Joseph Levada, Antonio Cañizares, and Franc Rodé. Its consultants are the Undersecretaries of some Dicasteries.

Several communities spread throughout the world have been up to now under Ecclesia Dei. 300 priests, 79 religious men, 300 religious women, 200 seminarians, and several hundreds of thousands of faithful. The interest of the young curiously increases in France, the United States, Brazil, Italy, Scandinavia, Australia, and China. At the moment of its return, 50 priests, around 50 seminarians, 100 religious women, and 25,000 faithful came from Campos.

Today, the group of the Lefebvrians includes 4 Bishops who were ordained by Mons. Lefebvre, 500 priests, and 600,000 faithful. Several contemplative monasteries, and some male and female religious groups have joined the group, which has parishes (they call them priories), seminaries, and associations. They are present in 26 countries.

Let us ask the Lord that this project of the Holy Father may soon be accomplished for the unity of the Church.

Pope visits Brazilian drug clinic..

BBC NEWS | Americas | Pope visits Brazilian drug clinic
"He urged recovered addicts to be "ambassadors of hope" and said the clinic bore testament "to the Gospel of Christ amid a consumer society far removed from God"."
"At the clinic, which claims to have an 80% success rate and is run by Franciscan friars, patients receive spiritual guidance while working on a farm as beekeepers, milking cows or tending apple orchards."

This is awesome to see our Pontiff living the Gospel to some of the most meek of all mankind. It also seems these Franciscans have found how to recover the people not only in their physical ailments but spiritually as well, true works of mercy.

Each act of beekeeping, milking etc.. is an act of serving God in itself.

Along with our newest Saint Galvo this has turned into a very interesting trip to Brazil thus far, I am anxious to see whats next. Who knows maybe a Motu Proprio for a "Latin" Mass will come before he leaves this "Latin" Country.

Hold your breath ...: The Latin Mass document is coming | National Catholic Reporter

Hold your breath for the next media frenzy: The Latin Mass document is coming | National Catholic Reporter Conversation Cafe: "Whatever form Benedict's final decision takes, the kinds of controversies reflected in this exchange will continue -- even if most Catholics, on most Sundays and in most parishes around the world, remain blissfully unaffected by them"

I'm not really sure this is the right attitude to have about this motu proprio..

1962 Missal Sales Rise as Motu Proprio Expected Soon

4-April-2007 -- Catholic World News Brief

1962 Missal Sales Rise as Motu Proprio Expected Soon
Rome, Apr. 4, 2007 (CWNews.com) - Italian media outlets are once again reporting that a papal document liberalizing the use of the Mass of St. Pius V could be released during the Easter season.

Reports of the imminent release of a motu proprio allowing all Catholic priests to use the Tridentine rite have been circulating in Rome for a full year. The rumors have intensified recently, however, and this week saw the Vatican Secretary of State confirm that the document is close to publication. Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone told the French publication Le Figaro that the Pope is prepared to take action soon-- although he did not give a date.

In expectation of the motu proprio, Catholic bookstores in Rome have begun selling copies of the 1962 Missal. Expecting brisk sales, publishing houses in Italy are reprinting the old Missal.

SSPX Responds To the coming motu proprio

Full Letter Here: http://www.sspx.org/superior_generals_ltrs/supgen_70.htm

Excerpts:

If we closely consider the arguments advanced this time, especially by the French episcopate, but also at Rome and in Germany, one notices that the bishops in fact are afraid of this Mass. Even Rome is being extremely careful not to disavow Paul VI's reform while outlining the possibility of a return to the old Mass. The progressivists' fear is such that it is necessary [for Rome] to go to great lengths and to argue forcefully for broadening the permission for priests' to celebrate the Tridentine Mass. Certainly, that also explains why we have not yet received either thanks or a response to our letter from the Sovereign Pontiff or even the Vatican.

6. Ecumenism, liberalism, and this spirit of the world that defiles the Bride of Christ are still the principles animating the Conciliar Church. These principles kill the spirit of God, the Christian spirit. We must understand more than ever the roots of the crisis in order to keep ourselves from rushing blindly into the new situation that would be created by the motu proprio. Before thinking of the measures that will need to be taken for our canonical regularization, an in-depth discussion of these questions is indispensable. We hope that Rome at last understands our demand to see any discussions preceded by what we call our preliminaries or preconditions, one of which would be met by the motu proprio. For thirty years we have refused to take the poison; it is for this reason that we have been rejected, and it is still the condition (more or less hidden) that Rome imposes for accepting us. Ecumenism, religious liberty, and collegiality remain the points of contention over which we will not budge.

7. What we have been saying up to this point is just speculation. The concrete circumstances, that is, the actual terms of the motu proprio, may require other distinctions and clarifications.
