MO Must Take Inmates to Abortion Clinics

ST. LOUIS - The state of Missouri must provide transportation to abortion clinics for inmates who want to undergo the procedure, a federal appeals panel ruled Tuesday.

In 2005, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the state had to allow a specific inmate, listed as Jane Roe, to have an abortion after the state tried to end the practice of driving prisoners to clinics for elective abortions.

The American Civil Liberties Union then sought a federal ruling making the high court's decision a class-action on behalf of all imprisoned pregnant women in the state.

U.S. District Judge Dean Whipple ruled in 2006 that the state must allow pregnant inmates to have abortions and transport them to facilities that perform the procedure. Tuesday's decision by the three-judge panel of the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals sided with the lower court ruling.

"The court recognized that the right to elect to have an abortion survives incarceration," said Tony Rothert, legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union's St. Louis office. "This was about providing women with the opportunity to exercise their choice even though they were incarcerated."

It wasn't clear whether the state would appeal. A spokesman for Attorney General Jay Nixon said the decision was still being reviewed with the Corrections Department.

Gov. Matt Blunt called the ruling disappointing and noted that Missouri law prohibits the use of state tax money to pay for abortions.

"Over the last three years, we have made positive changes in Missouri and enacted laws that reflect our profound respect for the inherent dignity of each and every life," Blunt said. "I am hopeful and prayerful that we can further protect life by enhancing our laws to defend the dignity of human life."

The ruling came on the 35th anniversary of the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision, which established a nationwide right to abortion.

At a hearing in September, attorneys for the state argued security concerns and the state's limited resources outweighed a female offender's right to an abortion. Inmates are denied certain freedoms, including "the right to procreate, vote and travel," Assistant Attorney General Michael Pritchett told the panel at the time.

But the ACLU said the state exaggerated its security concerns and has shown an ability to safely transport inmates to an abortion clinic in St. Louis despite the presence of protesters.

A good friend of mine from High School met up with me for some drinks last night, we somehow got on the topic of faith and religion, now my friend is not religious by any means but he seems open to truth, From our discussions he says he can hear truth in some of what I have said and he said there is truth in what his buddy from work talks to him about.

My Friend wanted to share the CD with me that his work companion gave him, I of course took it and the CD was Labeled "Mystery 5 : Rapture" My poor friend is just so simple minded (in a good way) that he can be confused and led astray so easily, He does not understand the protestant concept of the Rapture, nor the Catholic rebuttal against it.

I find it very interesting that the "Old Paths" Baptist preacher admits around the 16min mark that he does not Understand everything he is going to teach, In one sentence he proclaims that scripture is all we need to uphold our faith, but then he proceeds to tell us that , todays talk is going to be regarding something that is almost all Bible based Christian faiths teach- He Makes sure to note that the Methodists, Episcopalians, and Lutherans no longer teach the rapture, also he emphasizes that the Catholic faith never has taught the rapture- Pastor even admits that the word Rapture isn't in the bible but its A-OK hes going to preach it to us from the Bible anyway... By 39min into it he is trying to get one of his parishioners to help him explain the Vulcan mind Melt

With the whole "Left Behind" Series overcoming many of our Catholic brothers and sisters, and false interpretations of scripture have swooned many from the one true faith, I thought I would share some media that you can pass around to your friends and family that may have bought into this silly idea of Pre-Mid- Post.. etc..etc..

Conversations and Conversions

I have stated before I have been preaching the gospel at work mostly though my actions as St. Francis recommends and that has led to many conversations with mostly "non-denominational" protestants, I have mostly gained a higher respect from them for our faith and some have a sincere interest in the Catholic faith. They have realized what major misconceptions they have held and I have help them search for truth.

One of my co-workers has even ventured to attend the Extraordinary Mass with me, while she was rather lost during the mass she enjoyed it and is open to attending again.

What I would like to know in the comments is what are the big issues you face when you live your faith?

What are the Most common Questions you are asked and the most common practices you must defend?

Calling a Spade, A Spade

In case you have not heard GOOGLE (whom I'm sure most are familiar with) has introduced street level view's of a limited amount of cities-San Francisco Bay area, New York, Las Vegas, Denver and Miami- now I admit that when using the street level view it emits an creepy feeling for sure, but it seems there are bigger problems with this technology- such as allowing people to know what an abortion clinic is really all about.

Per this AP article an abortion clinic in Miami is a little upset with Google, per the article:

Eileen Diamond is hoping she can persuade Google to replace its current picture of a Miami street corner where protesters gather once a week to protest the abortions performed at A Choice For Women. The picture, still available on Google's maps Friday afternoon, includes a cluster of protesters standing outside the clinic, an image that clinic administrator Diamond worries will scare away potential patients or perhaps attract trouble makers to the facility.

"It's sort of disturbing because it's certainly not the kind of message we want to be sending out," said Diamond. "It's already very painful for our patients to come in. We want them to feel safe and protected."

So Ms. Diamond, you are worried about the "Image" of an baby murder mill? Im not sure even with enough sugar cane that you could candy coat an abortion mill.
If this is the kind of message that you do not want to be sending out then only one action will change that message, stop performing abortions! Yes it is painful for women to come into a place to commit legal murder, but there is no possible way for anyone to feel "Safe and protected" in an abortion clinic, most of all the innocent life of the child in the same room.

You don't like the feeling Ms.Diamond of your nice comfortable abortion office being violated you want to feel safe and secure, maybe that same safe and secure feeling of being inside the womb, the most safe and secure place on earth, until businesses like yours came around.

I understand your point of view Ms. Diamond, you are the proprietor of an establishment thats #1 business is murdering babies, and any negative connotations of such you wish to be swept under the rug- bad for business, at what point Ms. Diamond, Can I call a spade a spade?
